Dokoupil - Corporations & Products

July 18, 2022 to September 03, 2022

This summer, Galerie Andrea Caratsch presents a group of paintings and sculptures created by Czech born artist Dokoupil. The works are a selection of a closed series titled Corporations & Products, created between 1985 and 1986 in Cologne, of which a comprehensive group was presented at the Rio de Janeiro Biennale in the fall of 1985. Large-scale dynamic paintings and cranky bronze sculptures featuring names of global corporations such as Pepsi, but also names of German companies having emerged from the context of the much cited Deutsches Wirtschaftswunder and institutions such as MOMA ironically become the subjects of his artistic preoccupation. The anti-aesthetic, rough surfaces and the spirit of these works convey at best the rebellious and punk attitude of Dokoupil in these seminal years of his career.
